Glazed Grilled Carrots

Glazed Carrots make an excellent side dish with numerous meals. They are fork tender and sweet. Even my kiddos that don’t really care for carrots love this recipe.

The glaze transforms this veggie into something special. It’s budget friendly, easy to prepare and always a crowd pleaser. This is a must try recipe and the entire family will love it.

How to grill carrots with glaze:

The trick to grilling carrots is to allow them to cook for 12 to 15 minutes while continuously flipping them every 3 to 4 minutes. Initially the carrots will cook on direct heat.

However, if you notice the carrots are getting too browned, move them to indirect heat to prevent them from over browning.

This is key to perfectly cooked carrots and not burning them. A little bit of char is good, but you don’t want them too brown!

How to store leftovers:

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. They are tasty served the next day and we all enjoy these as leftovers.

I like to put the carrots in individual portion containers along with the other leftovers. It makes for an easy grab and go meal for us to take to work, school or wherever.

I learned a long time ago that this simple step helps to prevent us from eating take out. Since it is already packed and ready to go, it saves time the next morning.

Can you freeze cooked carrots:

Yes, these carrots can be frozen. Just make sure they are completely cooled before freezing.

Then place the carrots inside a freezer bag or container. Freeze up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat when ready to serve.

Tips for cooking carrots on the grill:

  • Carrots. We love using whole carrots for this recipe, but you can use baby carrots as well. Just watch them closely to make sure that they don’t fall in between the grill grates while grilling them.
  • Maple Syrup. You can also use maple syrup in place of the brown sugar or in combination with. It adds a richness to the carrots that is delicious.
  • Soy Sauce. For a sweet and tangy taste, try adding soy sauce to the glaze along with salt and pepper.
  • Peel the carrots. While you do not have to peel them, I think they look and taste better if you do. Baby carrots usually come packaged ready to enjoy if using that variety.
  • Glaze the carrots. Do not add the glaze until the last few minutes of grilling. This will prevent them from burning and flaming while cooking.
