Mauviel Copper Cookware

Speaking of one pot recipes – we recent upgraded our decade-old soup pot to a gorgeous Mauviel copper stockpot. The difference has been life changing.

Copper might seem intimidating but it’s actually super user-friendly! It is unrivaled in its ability heat and cool quickly and Mauviel is the best in the game.Because of that, everything can be cooked on low to medium low heat. It heats uniformly at these low temperatures meaning bits of food don’t burn in one spot. The handles also stay cool during use.

And it’s pretty. Sooooooooooo pretty. One Pot Easy Stovetop Vegetarian Taco Soup Recipe (3)

Made this for lunch today, with my own taco seasoning, it’s not an ingredient freely available in the UK, and it was delicious. Full of flavour and so handy to throw everything in the slow cooker (crocpot) for an overnight cook. Have already made a stock for the freezer

FAQs

What can I use to thicken taco soup? ›

Addition of Cornstarch or Flour: Create a slurry by mixing equal parts cornstarch or flour with water. Stir this mixture into the soup and let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens. Ensure there are no lumps by gradually adding the slurry while stirring constantly.

How to make homemade soup more flavorful? ›

Use fresh vegetables, high-quality meats or broth, and fresh herbs to add depth of flavor. Add acidity: A squeeze of lemon or lime juice, a dash of vinegar, or a splash of wine can brighten the flavors of a soup and make it taste more complex.

Is it better to thicken soup with flour or cornstarch? ›

The most classic and surefire way to thicken a broth-based soup is with a cornstarch slurry. Whisk together equal parts cornstarch (or arrowroot) and water or broth, then whisk it into the pot of soup. A good ratio to get to a pleasant thickness without your soup tasting goopy or heavy is one tablespoon.

How do you make soup thicker without flour or cornstarch? ›

A handful of uncooked rice. That's all folks, just a handful of white rice. Any kind will do: jasmine, basmati, short grain, long grain. When added to a brothy (or watery, even) soup, and left to simmer for 20-30 minutes, the rice breaks down, releasing its starch and thickening the liquid that it's cooking in.

What is the most important ingredient in soup? ›

For clear, brothy soups, stock is your most important ingredient. If you want to make a good soup, you need to use an excellently flavored stock — otherwise, the entire pot could be tasteless.

What is the secret ingredient in soup? ›

It may sound a bit strange and unusual for some, but vinegar is a common ingredient in some soup recipes, and there is a good reason for it. If you think about it, vinegar is really a flavor-enhancer (umami). That's why it is so often used in cooking, sauces, and salad dressings. The same is true with soups.

How do you fix tasteless vegetable soup? ›

Roast or caramelize your vegetables before adding them to your soup to bring out their natural sweetness. Add ingredients like mushrooms, tomatoes, soy sauce, miso, or seaweed to enhance the flavor of your soup. Use fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, basil or thyme to add fresh flavor to your soup.

How do you thicken Mexican soup? ›

One option is to create a slurry by mixing equal parts cornstarch and cold water. Stir the slurry into the soup and allow it to simmer for a few minutes until it thickens. Another option is to add a can of refried beans or mashed black beans to the soup, which will both thicken and add flavor.

What can you use instead of flour to thicken soup? ›

Cornstarch is a great option as it is a natural thickening agent, but you'll want to be careful about how much you use. Start with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch whisked together with cold water to create a slurry. Then, gradually add the slurry to the soup, letting it boil for one to two minutes before adding more.

How do you thicken taco filling? ›

A typical 12-serving taco seasoning mix recipe uses about 1 ½ tablespoons of cornstarch. If you want to skip the cornstarch in your homemade seasoning to use it for other purposes, just sprinkle ⅓ to ½ teaspoon of cornstarch per pound of browned, spiced meat before adding ¾ cup of water and heat until thickened.

Can you thicken soup without cornstarch? ›

There are any number of starches besides corn starch: Arrowroot, potato, rice flour, tapioca, seaweed, pureed beans etc. Simply reducing the liquid portion of a soup will serve to thicken it.
