The smith gamer - Acrylix - Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2024)

Chapter 1: My death

Chapter Text

Death… it was cold and unforgiving, one wrong step and you would be in the void forever. The long, cold void of absolute nothingness, yes, that was where I was. My soul floating through inky blackness. I had lived a good life, I would think. Never had any girlfriends or close family for that matter but I didn’t care, I was more than satisfied with being alone, interacting with others was just so damn frustrating. I could never quite get behind the nuances of interactions with people. Not that I had no companionship, but my companions were animals, dogs, cats, birds, even a snake. All of these were pets which I had once upon a time and I was fine with that. I spent most of my time reading or watching netflix. My favorite books were Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, though I never got to read the Heroes of Olympus or the other Riordanverse books in my life. I had just bought the first book of the Heroes of Olympus saga when I was hit by a speeding car, trying to escape the cops. It wasn’t a quick death, at least not as quick as I expected. I laid on the street for a few more minutes after being hit, in immense pain, blacking in and out of consciousness. I could feel the warmth slowly leaving my body, and my soul fleeting out of my corpse. Then, the next thing I knew, I was in the darkness.

I didn’t know how long I was there, days? Maybe months? Perhaps even a year? I truly didn’t know. I only knew it was a long, long while.

Until, one day, out of nowhere, a blue text box appeared before my eyes, it was just like the screens in ‘The gamer’ and it read as followed:

[You are dead!]

[You have been chosen out of millions of souls to be reborn with the power of the gamer, you cannot decline this offer. Your new world was based off your memories of the Percy Jackson universe. Warning! As this world was constructed based on you memories, details may differ and some randomness was introduced, so the butterfly effect will still happen.]

[are you ready for your character creation?]

[Y/N]

As I read the text, a voice over of the text appeared in my mind. It sounded suspiciously like Morgan Freeman.

I was getting pretty excited, living in the world of Percy Jackson? Hell yeah! Sure it was dangerous but what was life without a little danger and now I could finally be a part of camp half-blood, “YES! Start the character creation!”

The former text disappeared and was replaced with the next one.

[Choose your sex: Male/Female/Non Binary]

“Male please”, I definitely didn’t want to have a period, that sounded awful and non binary… well depending on when in the timeline I was thrown in, that might not be the smartest choice. I had no guarantee to be born in a time where being non binary was accepted. For all I know, I could be thrown into the 1930s.

[Choose one:
Demigod

Mortal(clear sighted)

Immortal]

“Obviously I want to be a demigod, where is the fun in being immortal or a mortal when I can be a demigod”, I explain, choosing the demigod path.

[Choose your godly parent(only the olympians are available at this moment):
Zeus: Lightning generation, Flight, avian communication, strong scent, forbidden child

Poseidon: Water manipulation, water breathing, earthshaker, equine communication, aquatic communication, strong scent, forbidden child

Hades: Shadow manipulation, shadow travel, necromancy, strong scent, forbidden child

Demeter: Plant manipulation

Ares: Weapon manipulation, enhanced physical power, armor summoning, weapon summoning, Boar communication

Athena: Enhanced mind, Owl communication

Apollo: Light manipulation, healing, enhanced archery

Hermes: Enhanced speed, enhanced stealing

Dionysus: Plant manipulation, alcohol summoning

Hephaestus: Crafting, Technokinesis, Ferrokinesis

Random: Choose any of these at random]

“Hmmm… that's a tough choice. I don’t want to be a child of the big three, too much trouble for what it is worth… Not Dionysus or Demeter, never was good with plants… Hermes cabin is too full… I could go with Athena, Hermes or Ares but that seems kinda lame with the other options… so either Apollo or Hephaestus… Hmmm- on one hand we have the broken ability to heal yourself on the other hand crafting my own weapons and armor sounds awesome… Hey system, can you randomize between only Hephaestus and Apollo?”

[Yes I can… rolling the dice…]

[Congratulations! You are a child of Hephaestus!]

[Now choose how you wanna look]

A new panel appeared, with sliders and buttons all around. It took me a few hours till I was satisfied with the outcome. What I created was a 10 year old boy with bronze skin and stunning eyes that looked like those of Gojo Satoru, because it looked awesome. I was tall for the age of 10 and had already some good muscles, which would, no doubt, become a very bulky build one day when I was older. My hair was deep, dark black and reached down to my shoulders, though it was held up in a bun.

[Great, with that you are done creating your character to see your stat sheet before reincarnating, say or think ‘Status’]

Chapter 2: dead again?

Chapter Text

With a start, I woke up, dizzy from my recent death, I looked around. I was in the bedroom of a boy, lego sets were strewn about everywhere, as were clay pots and other such things. It seems as though the user of my body before me had already had some experience with crafting, it made sense, after all, looking at my skills, I could see that crafting was already leveled up a bit.

-Crafting(10/100): The art of creating something, be that a shield, some armor, a weapon or a clock

As was technokinesis, though I didn’t really-

A sharp pain flooded my brain, followed by a rush of memories.

Ors’ memories.

Ors was a normal 10 year old kid, who loved crafting things, started by his obsession with lego at a very young age. His mother, Lily was a mechanic and married to his stepfather, John, who was an accountant. Well, he wasn’t quite that normal, actually, he had adhd and dyslexia, which meant he struggled in school but thankfully he had John to help him with his homework, so his grades were decent enough. Both John and Lily knew about his true identity. They had told him yesterday, on his birthday, after an automaton bull attacked him. He had beat the thing by using his technokinesis to make it short circuit, which was why his Technokinesis was already level 10. They had given him a celestial bronze sword that his father had left him, which transformed into a pocketwatch when he wasn’t using it and by clicking the timer, it would become a sword again. Today, they were going to take him to camp halfblood. Now that he knew his true heritage, he would attract monsters like a homing beacon. Years and years of memories flooded into my brain and after a few minutes, it was over. The memories stopped and I regained my focus.

As if on autopilot, I went about my morning routine, getting changed, brushing my teeth, gathering my pocket watch-sword. Just for the heck of it, I transformed the watch into sword form and took a few swings, though it was more like flailing it around, as I had no formal training in swordsmanship, still, some instincts still were there, so I could actually fight with it, if not being the best at it.

I de-transformed the sword and put the watch in my pocket.

But I hesitated- I pulled out the watch again and intoned “Inventory?”

And sure enough an inventory popped up, it had 20 slots, most likely, one for each point I had in body or maybe it was a hard fix of 20 slots, just to nerf me a bit? Either way, I put the watch in my inventory, so I couldn’t lose it. Sure enough, a little sword and watch icon appeared in the top left of my inventory.

I walked out of ‘my’ room and into the hallway. I followed the smell of freshly made pancakes, to the dining room, where my parents, Lily and John, were waiting, “Morning Mom, Dad, is that pancakes that I smell from over there”

“It is, son”, Lily smiled warmly, gesturing for me to sit at the table. A huge stack of pancakes was sitting on the table and I immediately took five on my plate and slathered it with maple syrup. As I was eating, a pop up appeared.

[Eaten: Pancake, 5 HP regained]

Good to know for the future, eating regenerates HP, maybe also MP if I find the right food? Theories for later, I supposed. Right then, I was busy enjoying homemade pancakes, they were delicious.

After eating, I was told to get my luggage, which had toiletries, clothes and my favorite stuffed animal, a rabbit named Dr. Tim. I didn’t really need the stuffed animal but I had to keep the disguise up that I was Ors, so the rabbit had to come with me. I got the luggage together and we took the elevator downstairs and into the parking garage, where we went inside Lily’s car and promptly drove off.

As we were driving, a quest prompt came up.

[Quest: A perilous journey]

[Survive the journey to camp half blood

Bonus objective: Both Lily and John survive

Rewards: 1 level up

Bonus rewards: 5 Golden Drachma]

[Do you accept? Y/N]

I accepted the quest and immediately I could hear somethin big thumping behind us, it was the form of a running Cyclops.

“Drive faster, dad, a monster is after us”

John just nodded stoically and increased the pace. The cyclops was still far behind us and with the speed at which we were going, it would take quite some time for the beast to catch up, hopefully long enough that we could get to camp borders. We didn’t have it far to long island, so it was very much possible to get there in time. As we passed over one of the many bridges connecting long island to the mainland, another monster appeared, this time in front of us. A hellhound was in the way of the road and john swerved to avoid it. We barely slipped past the monster, which was now also chasing us. We made it further and further to the camp and finally, thalia's tree was in sight. The car screeched to a halt and I left it. The hellhound was hot on our tail, so I decided to fight it, I took the watch out of my inventory and turned it into a sword. I aimed at the charging hellhound, ready to swipe at it. It came closer and closer till, shing! I delivered a blow to the large canine, not enough to kill it but the cut looked pretty gnarly. The beast tried to bite me but I dodged to the side, taking another swing at the beast but I missed by an inch. Still, I didn’t let that stop me, and I swung again, this time thrusting at its throat. The blade connected and the monster disintegrated, leaving only one of its fangs behind.

[Swordfighting level up twice]

But by the time I managed to kill the hellhound, the cyclops was already there and it swung its meaty arms at me. I tried to block with my sword but the impact made the blade escape my grasp and fall to the ground. I myself was flung backwards a few feet and the Cyclops laughed, “Hahaha, puny half blood doesn’t stand a chance against Grog! Puny half blood will die and Grog will feast on his flesh”

The cyclops swung at me again and I was launched 15 feet to the left, hitting the ground with great pain. I could already see myself in the void again, having failed my second chance at life, when, there was a whistle of air, a thunk and an arrow was sticking in the cyclops’ eye. Immediately, it disintegrated. I looked towards the border and saw Chiron standing there, bow in hand, smiling at me. I was too exhausted to reply and sank into unconsciousness.

Chapter 3: Miraculous recovery

Chapter Text

When I awoke, I was greeted by a system notification.

[Slept in a bed, restored 100% HP and MP and removed any negative status conditions]

[Quest: A perilous journey, completed, bonus objective completed. Rewards granted]

I looked around, seeing that I was in the infirmary, hospital beds were everywhere and blonde kids were tending to the injured. Apollo cabin kids if I were a betting man. Next to my bed was a glass full of what I could only assume to be nectar. It smelled like my grandmother's stuffed cabbage and would probably taste the same. It always was my favorite meal and Nectar is supposed to taste like what you enjoy most.

Anyways- I was still laying there, opening my inventory, to see the 5 golden drachma in it, together with my clock-sword. It wasn’t long before one of the apollo kids noticed I was awake and rushed towards me, “Oh my, you are already awake, it should’ve taken a few more days at least, with the amount of damage you have taken, here, let me check you up really quick”

He examined me and was shocked that I had no damage on my body, “I have never seen nectar work this fast and efficiently, the gods must favor you, stay here, I’ll go get chiron”

With that, he stormed off and I was left in the bed, with nothing but the system to keep me company ‘Status’

‘Hmmm, so I get five points per level up, good to know, for now, I’ll save up the points for a later date, I still don’t know whether exercise can raise my stats or not, until I find that out, I’ll keep my points to myself’

Soon, Chiron arrived together with the camper and I silently thought ‘Observe’

[Chiron]

[Trainer of heroes lvl ???]

[Chiron is a son of Kronos, legendary trainer of heroes and skilled medic.]

Not much info but that was probably because my observe was still level one and my level was so low.

“Oh my, he really is awake”, Chiron said, walking up to me. He had to bow to get into the infirmary through the door, because he was so much taller than the door, a design flaw, really.

“How are you feeling, Ors?”

“I am feeling fine”, I told the old centaur, trying my best to seem confused, “Where am I and why are you part donkey?”

“Part horse, not donkey, I am a centaur and you are currently in the camp half blood infirmary. I take it your mother has already told you about camp?”

“A bit, yes. It is where demigod children of the greek gods go to be trained, right?”

“Yes, that is right”, Chiron nodded, “Do you already know who your father is?”

“My mom said he was Hephaestus? Isn’t that the god of the forge?”, I asked him, looking around confused.

“He is indeed, if you already know your godly parent, then we can skip the whole claiming part and you can go straight to cabin number nine, you seem fine to walk on your own but first, we have to visit mr D, our camp director”, Chiron told me and motioned for me to follow him.

I sprung up from the bed and followed Chiron to the big house, which was a huge, four story building, its walls painted sky blue. Mr. D was sitting in front of the entrance at a table, playing Pinochle with a bunch of satyrs.

“Ah, mr D, I am here to introduce to you our newest camper, Ors Smith”, Chiron introduced me, “son of Hephaestus”

“Yeah, yeah, Orin Smidge, I got it, I got it”, Mr D was completely focused on his game, not even looking at me. I took the time to observe him

[Dionysus]

[God of wine lvl ???]

[Dionysus is the god of wine, he is being punished with no alcohol because he had sex with a nymph who was protected by zeus]

Immediately after reading that, I got a quest notification.

[Quest: A drunk god is a happy god]

[Dionysus isn’t allowed any alcohol as long as he is camp director but there is a loophole! A hero can get him alcohol and he is allowed to drink it!

Get Dionysus a good glass of wine

Rewards: 5 level ups; Favor with Dionysus]

Definitely doing that one, the favor of a god is priceless.

We soon left the god to his game and Chrion walked me to Cabin nine.

It was only on the way to the cabin that I noticed how late it was, the sun was already setting, so no feast for me till the next day but I was fine with that, as the gamer I didn’t have to eat to survive.

The cabin was made out of brick and the door was like that of a huge, metal vault, it looked like a bank vault mixed with a factory.

Chiron opened the door. Gears were turning, steam was released and clicks were being heard from inside.

The inside was messy, with bits of metal and machines lying everywhere, steel bunk beds lined the walls, with digital control panels, that had buttons and LEDs everywhere. My fellow brothers and sisters weren’t here, their bunk beds had lowered themselves downstairs, where they had their own rooms, or so Chiron told me. The old centaur pressed a button and -after a few minutes- a Burly looking, African american teenager came up from one of the bunks, “A new camper?” he asked, a permanent scowl on his face.

“Yes, meet your new brother, Ors Smith”

“Ors? Strange name, welcome to our humble abode, dear brother, it is almost sleeping time, so most of the introductions will have to wait till tomorrow, let me show you around”

Charles Beckendorf, because who else could it be, showed me my bunk and how to control it, how to descend it, how to use all the functions etc. etc.

As I was laying in my room beneath the cabin, I tried to activate more of my system.

“Map?” Nothing

“Guild?” Nothing

“Party?” Nothing

“Shop?”

A screen of thousands upon thousands of items appeared before me…

Chapter 4: Let the grind begin

Chapter Text

All the items were listed both with the cost in drachma as well as in dollars. There was a search function in the top right corner and I wrote in ‘Wine’ for my Dionysus quest. Immediately, hundreds upon hundreds of wine bottles were shown, some costing as little as 5$ or 1 drachma and some costing as much as 5000$ or 1000 golden drachma. With my 5 drachma I could only buy cheap wine and the quest said I had to get him a good wine, so that would have to wait until I had more golden drachma or dollars. With that I went to sleep.

I awoke the next day, fully rested, to a familiar notification.

[Slept in a bed, restored 100% HP and MP and removed any negative status conditions]

I commanded my bed to rise above, into the cabin, not even touching the controls. To my surprise it worked.

[Technokinesis leveled up]

Once in the cabin proper, I changed out of my bedwear and into my casual wear, a jeans, some shoes, an orange camp half blood t-shirt and some sunglasses, which I always kept resting on my head.

The other campers were also getting ready, Beckendorf was already done changing and stood, watching us change, his arms crossed.

“New guy”, he called out once he noticed I was done changing, “You will stay close to me today, as your cabin counselor I have to show you the ropes, first we’ll go to breakfast, there you will be required to offer a food sacrifice to the goods into the hearth, you can freely pick which god you sacrifice to, though most sacrifice to their parents, after that, today we have pegasus riding, sword fighting, then it is time for lunch and after lunch, we will spend the rest of the day in the forges, crafting new weapons or enhancing already present weapons with enchantments”

“Understood, Beckendorf”, I nodded at him and waited together with him for the rest of our siblings to get ready. It took 15 more minutes before everyone was ready(one of our brothers just had to get his makeup done. Most Hephaestus kids didn’t do make up, since it would all get smeared in the heat of the forge but he did it anyway. According to one of my sisters, it was an unsmearable makeup kit that he had gotten from his Aphrodite cabin girlfriend). Together, we marched to the dining pavilion, led by Beckendorf. We were one of the first ones there, only the athena and dionysus cabin were there when we arrived. Over the next couple of minutes more and more campers filed in. All the while, I could feel annabeth chase staring at me, because I was the new kid and mayhaps her chance at a quest.

Annabeth was a year older than me, which meant that next year, Percy Jackson would arrive at camp and kickstart the whole timeline. Until then, I had to get stronger as fast as possible, which meant power grinding. Thanks to Gamers Body, I didn’t need to sleep, so I would study up on all the theoretical knowledge at night and train all day. I would never get tired, so I could just keep going on and on and on.

Anyways… When everyone was there, Dionysus opened the feast. I immediately shoveled on bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes and waffles.

After everyone had filled their plates, we formed orderly lines to the hearth to offer up our sacrifices. When it was my turn, I threw in a few sausages for my dad, a few pancakes for Hestia(who was sitting in the hearth, tending to the flames) and a few waffles to Zeus(to get brownie points). After that, I went back to our table and ate breakfast, all the while feeling the stares of Annabeth Chase from the Athena table.

After eating our fill, the campers were sent to do their activities.

Pegasus riding was… terrifying to say the least. Being so high in the air with nothing but a horse to support you… it would probably never enjoy it, like the others obviously did but I would survive this once a week, which was how often we would do Pegasus riding. Most activities were once a week, only swordfighting an crafting were more often, at least that was what Beckendorf told me. As the hephaestus cabin, we obviously did crafting more often and swordfighting was a must have for any half-blood

Swordfighting was all I could ever have hoped for and more. I learned so much there. At the end of training, a notification greeted me.

[swordfighting leveled up thrice]

Now I had swordfighting level six, which was good progress for just one day. I had no doubt that the frequency of level ups would decrease as I got better but it was still progress to be proud of.

What was even better than sword fighting though? Working at the forges. It came so easily to me and I was able to craft a dagger to acceptable quality by the end of the day. I even got to enchant some daggers with bleeding enchantments.

[Craft leveled up ten times]

[Ferrokinesis leveled up five times]

[Technokinesis leveled up three times]

At the end of the day, I borrowed some books from the Athena cabin and spent the entire night reading up on things to increase my knowledge. I read books on math, physics, biology, chemistry and -most important of all- a lot about greek myths. At dawn, I had accumulated a good amount of knowledge and returned the books to the Athena cabin, some of the Athena campers were already awake, so I could return it to them.

[Math leveled up five times]

[Science leveled up 15 times]

[Greek myths leveled up 35]

With that done, I checked my status one last time before the next day would start.

Chapter 5: The grind

Chapter Text

The morning was going rather slowly, we made ourselves ready, freshened up, went to the dining pavilion, where we ate breakfast(I sacrificed again to my dad, Hestia and to Zeus, brownie points for the win), after that, we went to the archery range, where Chiron was instructing us. As the new kid, he concentrated much of his attention on me, showing me how to properly hold the bow, how to aim and to draw the string. After a few minutes of more or less successful firing practice, I got the notification from the system.

[Class skill: Bowmanship acquired]

[Bowmanship leveled up twice]

[-Bowmanship(3/100): The ability to aim and fire arrows in and out of combat]

[Dexterity leveled up]

I continued firing arrows at the targets and by the end of the session, my bowmanship had leveled up once more. After that, we went straight to the forges. In there, Beckendorf was showing me how to enchant a sword with everlasting sharpness, it was a long and difficult process and I didn’t quite get it down before we had to go to lunch but I made good progress. Once I finished learning the enchantment, I would definitely enchant my clock sword with it, sharpening the sword was just such a hassle. But now, we went to the dining pavilion and loaded up on food. It was pizza, mashed potatoes and broccoli. We went to the fire and I threw in a slice of pizza, “for you dad”, I threw in some mashed potatoes, “For zeus, as a sign of respect to the king of the gods” and finally, I threw in broccoli, “For Aphrodite, that my love life shall be fruitful”

We went back to our table and ate together. People were laughing, chatting and generally having a good time.

After lunch, we went straight back to the forges, where Beckondorf continued our lesson, showing me the right technique. He also explained that, to enchant something with anything other than the most basic enchantments -which was what I had been doing- you needed a spoil of war, a part of a monster. This was one of the reasons the forest was filled with monsters, otherwise, for every enchantment you would have to venture out of the camp to slay some monsters. That was how in the past heroes got their weapons enchanted, they would hunt down monsters outside of camp and come back with the spoils of war but nowadays, they could simply go into the forest, slay a few creatures and come back, ready to enchant.

After I got the enchantment down, I used the fang from the hellhound I defeated closely before arriving at camp in order to make my sword ever sharp.

[craft leveled up]

[strength leveled up]

“Nice”, I breathed out, seeing my stats rise. I would be unstoppable in no time. I had all day and all night to practice, so my stats would only continue to become greater and greater. I was already twice as strong as a normal mortal and I would only get stronger. So, with that done, we went to dinner and then to bed… well, everyone else went to bed, I read more books the whole night, which was a pain in the ass with dyslexia but it had to be done, for the grind!

[Math leveled up twice]

[Science leveled up five times]

[greek myths leveled up 10 times]

A few hours into the night, I got bored with reading all the time, and so, I snuck out into the forge, careful to keep away from the harpies patrolling. The forges were always on, having been enchanted to never run out of fuel, and so, I got to working on my first clockwork creation. It took me a few hours but at the end, I had a little(Hand sized) clockwork soldier who could march from one direction to the other.

[Ferrokinesis leveled up 3 times]

“Oh hell yeah, if one automaton gives me so many level ups, I’ll be at max level in no time, I knew making automatons was the right decision, I can already feel the new knowledge of crafting entering my body and mind”

That's right, whenever I leveled up a skill, the knowledge of how to use that skill got transplanted into my mind and body, it really was a cheat. I am unstoppable muhahahaha!

Quickly, I snuck back into my cabin and started my day, like all the others before it, by checking my stats, “status”

Chapter 6: the shop

Chapter Text

Just after I checked my status and was about to get ready for the day, another pop up appeared.

[Due to not sleeping, a great number of stat increases were not appointed]

[System update complete]

[sleep no longer required to gain stats]

[Mind leveled up four times]

[Strength leveled up once]

[Constitution leveled up once]

[Dexterity leveled up once]

Well, that was why my nightly study sessions didn’t get me any mind level ups, I needed to sleep to get those. Not anymore though.

For some reason, I gained one strength without sleeping but that wasn’t my focus here. I just shrugged and moved on.

I took a quick shower -which really wasn’t necessary since I didn’t sweat anymore but it still felt nice and it was useful to get the soot out of my hair, so I did it anyways-, brushed my teeth -again unnecessary- and went to the loo. After that was done, I enjoyed the rest of my day, first archery practice, where I gained two levels of proficiency, then swordfighting, where I once again gained 3 levels of proficiency and after that, we went down to the forges. I created a small dagger there, made out of regular iron, nothing made of celestial bronze, those lessons had to wait for after I was more proficient. I gained a level in craft and, when we went back to our cabin, I had a strange idea, I opened the shop and tried to push the dagger inside.

[Well made dagger]

[Price: 3 golden drachma]

[Do you wish to sell? Y/N]

I pressed the yes button and immediately, the dagger disappeared and three golden drachma were deposited into my inventory. A creepy smile crept onto my face, I would make myself rich in no time.

“Guys, I think I’ll stay here a little while longer”, I told my brothers and sisters.

“Sure thing, just be back before curfew”, Beckendorf told me and left the forges with my other siblings.

Once I checked that everyone was gone, I went around the shop, looking for abandoned works, the things no one would miss. I fed them into the system and whilst they mostly only netted in 1 drachma each, there was such a huge pile of them that I had 50 golden drachma in my inventory in no time. With that much money in my hands, I purchased a good bottle of wine from the system -costing me 40 drachma, leaving me with 10- and put it into my inventory. Checking my pocket watch, it was still 30 minutes till curfew and so, I snuck my way up to the big house. On its porch, Mr D was sitting, playing pinochle with a few satyrs, obviously winning.

One of the satyrs noticed me and pointed me out to Mr D.

“What are you doing here, Orik Smile? It’s almost past curfew, scram to your little cabin before the harpies eat ya, I have no time for you winy children to complain to me about every little thing ‘Oh, sally pushed me’ ‘Eric doesn’t like me back’ ‘Marco killed my pet goldfish’”, he mocked the campers, imitating the voices of whiny children.

“Oh no, Lord Dionysus”, I said, “I am here to make an offering to your magnificence”

“You got my attention”, Mr D raised his eyebrows and put down his hand of cards, turning his full attention to me.

I pulled the bottle Merlot from my inventory, “I know you are not supposed to drink any wine for the next few centuries but since I -a hero- got it for you, it doesn’t violate your punishment, since heroes operate under different rules than the gods, so please take this offering of this Merlot”

Mr D greedily took the bottle and poured himself a glass of wine. He sipped the dark liquid and let out a sigh of pure bliss, “I like you kid, Ors, was it? You just made yourself a powerful friend and if you bring me more, well, if you bring me more regularly, I might even bless ya, who knows”

I gave the god a small nod, before turning heel towards my cabin, “see you tomorrow at breakfast Lord D”

[Quest: A drunk god is a happy god completed]

[Leveled up five times]

With a grin, I walked into my cabin and went -after a quick shower- straight into my subterranean room and looked at my stats. With no hesitation, I put my stat points to good use, putting 10 into both strength and constitution then five into mind and dexterity each. Immediately, I felt my body and my mind changing, I felt my muscles grow stronger, bigger, I felt my body becoming more resilient, my motor control became finer and my memory sharpened. I could remember much more than before and much easier too.

Before I went back to study, I looked upon my stats, now after my power boost.

Chapter 7: Wine for the wine god

Chapter Text

The next day, at breakfast, Mr D was much jollier than usual, which creeped the campers out. Only Mr D and I knew the reason why he was so happy and it should stay that way. Right now, I had a monopoly on Mr D’s favor and I wasn’t gonna let that be ripped from me just to please the curiosity of the campers. All I had to do now was get him a few more bottles and bam, I get a blessing. Being blessed by a god or goddess was no small thing, it was a huge power boost and often came with extra abilities, nothing to sneeze at. Being blessed by just one god could make the difference between a good hero and a great hero and I was determined to become a great hero, someone to tell stories about, someone who was so awesome that the gods would just have to grant me godhood. Yes, godhood, my goal for this new life, to never have to die ever again, to be worshiped by heroes, maybe even have a champion or two.

But that would have to wait for later, now it was onto the grind again. We rode pegasi in the morning, tended to the flowers after lunch and then went back to the forges after that. There, I went total hyperfixation mode and made three iron daggers and one iron sword. Selling those in the shop, I got 18 golden drachma, raising my total to 28, not enough for my next bottle of wine but getting close.

[Craft leveled up three times]

After dinner, we went back into the cabins and I went straight into my room. In there, I decided against grinding my knowledge skills and instead grinding my observe skill, which was still at level one. I observed everything in my room multiple times. I leveled up my observe skill a whole 14 times that night. At dawn, I went back out of my room and to the dining pavilion. With my new level in observe, I tried observing Mr D again.

[Dionysus]

[God of wine lvl ???]

[Dionysus is the god of wine, he is being punished with no alcohol because he had sex with a nymph who was protected by zeus but thanks to you, he is able to drink at least a little wine.

He is the son of Semele and Zeus. His mother was disintegrated by looking upon Zeus’ true form and he had to mature sown into the leg of zeus as a fetus.

He is also the god of insanity, beware him and his children, for they can make very unhealthy changes in your psyche

His wife is Ariadne]

Wow, that was a lot more information than what I got before. I shifted my gaze to the dionysus cabin table and observed on of the two children sitting there.

[Castor]

[Son of Dionysus lvl 12]

[Strength: 25

Constitution: 41

Dexterity: 14

Mind: 5

Charm: 8

Castor is the son of Dionysus and Emily, twin brother of Pollux.

[...]]

The Entry went on and on about his life, his likes, dislikes, powers and so on and so forth. Honestly, I didn’t read too much of it, it was all just too much. I just swiped away the screen and continued to eat.

That day was a day we spent the entirety of in the forges. Whilst in there, I forged 3 swords, 1 breastplate and seven daggers, all of which were made of iron and I sold in the shop. I got 58 golden drachma out of it, raising my wealth to 86 golden drachma. With that, I bought another bottle of wine for 40 golden drachma, a Rosé, which left me with 48 golden drachma left in my possession. With my newly acquired booze, I went to the big house, where Mr D was chilling in the sunset, watching it, with a half empty glass of wine in his hand, the wine bottle laid on the table, empty, “Ah, Ors… back with more?”

“Indeed I am lord Dionysus, this time I managed to get a Rosé for you, milord”, I presented him with the bottle and he took it, with a greedy look in his eyes, “A good year, this one, you are proving quite useful Ors… quite useful indeed, keep doing such good work and you will have a fantastic life here. I like you kid, I really do”

“Thank you milord”

I went back to my cabin and went to study more.

Over the night, my math increased by three and my greek myths by five.

My mind also raised by one and in the morning, I once again checked my stats.

Chapter 8: capture the flag

Chapter Text

That day, when we were in the forges, Beckendorf came up to me, “Have you seen your creations? I was looking for them to see your progress but I can’t find any of them”

“No, I have no idea”, I lied through my teeth, careful not to make eye contact, I just focused on my newest project, a sword made of iron. Looks like I won’t be able to keep up my routine of selling my creations, Beckendorf was getting suspicious. Not long after, I was done with the sword and presented it to him.

“Good work, nice edge, good balance… I think you are ready to start working with celestial bronze”, Beckendorf told me, “I saw you summoned your own iron some times, that is a power some of us have, try summoning some celestial bronze to work with”

I nodded, Raising my arms and concentrating. I saw my MP slowly dwindle into nothingness as I summoned an ingot of celestial bronze, by the end of it, I had 10 MP remaining.

[Ferrokinesis leveled up three times]

“Great work, Ors” Beckendorf complimented me.

He went on to explain to me how to make use of celestial bronze, how to evenly temper it, what temperature to keep it in and so on and so forth. By the end of that session at the forges, I had a small, celestial bronze knife in my hands.

[Craft leveled up 5 times]

[Strength leveled up once]

After that, we went on to have swordfighting training. There, for the first time since I arrived to camp, I beat my sparring partner, an older kid from the Ares cabin. I was surprised, because he had way more experience than me and was a lot bigger than me too.

[You won your first swordfighting spar!]

[Swordfighting leveled up 5 times]

Confused as to how I won, I observed my opponent.

[Ricky]

[Son of Ares Lvl 19]

[Strength: 35

Constitution: 29

Dexterity: 20

Mind: 5

Charm: 5

Ricky is the son of Ares and Lianne.

[...]]

To my surprise, I was almost as strong as him and had more constitution. The system really was a cheat. I was barely a few weeks into camp and I was already approaching Ricky’s level of strength. With this kind of learning curve, I would be a great hero in no time, someone worthy of godhood.

Curious, I looked over to Luke, who was in the arena, sparring against a younger camper and I used observe.

[Luke]

[Son of Hermes, Servant of Kronos Lvl ???]

[Strength: 62

Constitution: 55

Dexterity: 61

Mind: 15

Charm: 51]

[Observe leveled up once]

Wow, no wonder he was the strongest swordsman in camp, his stats were double of mine, except for mind. If I wanted any chance against him in the future, I needed to step up my grind. He wouldn’t stop improving, so I had to improve even more.

That night, instead of studying, I focussed on swordfighting, which leveled up twice that night.

The next day, at breakfast, I sacrificed my food as usual and went to sit down next to Beckendorf, “So, are you ready for capture the flag, this evening?”, he asked me.

“Yeah, I’m so ready, I was looking forward to it all week”, I smiled, “I’ve been improving a lot… what team are we on this time?”

“Athena cabin”, Beckendorf told me, picking a pancake from his plate and eating it. I focused on my own plate, which was waffles, sausages and toast with cheese.

The day progressed further till it was time for capture the flag. This time, I was on the offense, ordered to storm the Ares camp and get the flag back over the creek.

The game started with the conch horn blaring out.

I began running over to where they were most likely to keep the flag but was intercepted by Pollux. He charged at me, sword high in the air. I dodged his overhand strike to the right and let my sword swing from right to left, which he blocked with his own blade. He tried disarming me as we clashed blades but I was stronger than him, so he didn’t manage to rip my sword out of my hand. Instead, I did the same move as him and actually succeeded in forcing his blade out of his hand. It flew ten feet away to his right and he looked at me in fear. I hit his head with the pommel of my sword and he fell like a sack of potatoes but before I could continue on, I was hit by an arrow in the shoulder. Looking up, I found one of the Apollo cabin kids standing not far away with his bow in hand. He went to nick another arrow but I ran at him and swung my sword at him. He blocked with his bow and the weapon broke into two pieces. I hit him with my sword pommel and he too fell unconscious.

With great pain, I took the arrow out of my shoulder. It had been a good shot, sliding right between the cracks in my armor but now wasn’t the time to admire his skill. Instead, I ran further into the forest, running past several people fighting. Pressing further on, I got a glimpse of the flag behind a couple of trees. Clarisse was standing guard over it.

“Observe”

Yeah, no way I could take her on fairly. But I didn’t have to play fair… I threw my newly made dagger behind her, she didn’t even flinch, sure that she had dodged the attack but I used Ferrokinesis to control the dagger, flying it behind her and straight into her back. She winced in pain. I ran past her as she was too distracted by the pain to stop me, I got the flag and ran back towards the creek. I was 50 feet away from it when I saw one of the Ares cabin kids running over the creek with our flag, we had lost.

[Ferrokinesis leveled up twice]

[Swordfighting leveled up four times]

“Gods, f*ck, I was so close”, I cursed, stabbing my sword into the ground.

Later at dinner, I could feel Clarisse glaring at me but I just ignored her. After todays game, I needed some good sleep, the first sleep I had gotten for weeks, so I checked my status one final time before I had some well earned rest.

Chapter 9: Enchantments

Chapter Text

I was standing in a vast desert, surrounded by golden sands in every direction, shifting with the wind like the tides of the ocean. A malevolent voice spoke from everywhere and nowhere all at once, “Puny hero, you are not supposed to be here”, the voice was carried by the wind and echoed off the dunes, “Your existence throws all my plans out of balance… you are different from the other brats… Stay out of the way of my plans or I shall destroy you, puny child

I could see a massive hand raising from the sand and coming closer and closer, about to crush me against the shifting ground below me before I woke with a start.

[Slept in a bed, restored 100% HP and MP and removed any negative status conditions]

“Kronos knows about me”, I muttered to myself, afraid of what that could mean. One thing was for sure I had to stay away as far as possible from Luke, I didn’t want a pit scorpion piercing my body, like he would do to Percy in about a year from now, if I hadn’t screwed the timeline just by existing.

I had to get stronger and fast.

I spent that day and the following days practicing my crafting and my swordsmanship, as well as my bowmanship. By the end of this week of training non stop, my craft had risen 10 times, my swordfighting had leveled up 15 times and my bowmanship had leveled up 5 times. My other skills also leveled up some more than others. In that week, I also gave Mr D another bottle of wine. But my grind couldn’t continue undisturbed, for it was my birthday, the august 1st.

On the day of my birthday, I was sitting in my underground room, reading one of the books I had borrowed from the athena cabin when I decided that was enough studying and I went upstairs, by clicking the button on my console, which rose the bed above ground, only to be met with my entire cabin, smiling at me happily, “Happy birthday Ors!”, they chorused and I was reminded of my birthday, which I had forgotten was today. Without sleeping, it became difficult to keep track of time.

After everyone had hugged the life out of me and presented me with gifts(mostly weapons or little automatons), I noticed a system notification.

[Congratulations! You are officially one year older]

[As a gift you will be given three levels and one skill book ‘Mist manipulation’]

Immediately, power surged through my body and within my inventory, it appeared, my first skill book and such a useful skill too. The mist was a force in this world which concealed the supernatural and could be used by those with divine blood to play with the senses of those around them. I excused myself to the toilet and took out the skill book.

[Skill book detected]

[Mist manipulation]

[Requirements: Mind 15, Charm 15]

Seeing the requirements, I used five of my status points to raise my charm to 15 and touched the skill book again.

[Skill book detected]

[Mist manipulation]

[Requirements met]

[Do you wish to learn this skill?]

[Y/N]

“Of course I want to learn the skill, yes”

[Skill: Mist manipulation learned]

[Mist manipulation(1/100): The ability to shape the mist in subtle ways as to fool the senses of those clouded in the mist]

Immediately knowledge of how to shape the mist appeared in my mind and I knew how to twist the perception of most mortals just a slight bit. Not enough to make someone believe they know me(like thalia did back when they escorted the di angelo’s) but enough to disguise my weapon as something else in the mortal world, such as a walking stick or something of a similar sort.

I walked out of the bathroom and to the dining pavilion with my cabin. Seeing me there, Mr D groaned, “Listen up everyone, today it is the birthday of Ors Smith, son of Hephaestus, do with that as you want, I don’t really care. One mortal brats birthday is just as important as any other mortal brats birthday. Not important at all”

Everyone wished me a happy birthday and went on with their day.

“Hey seeing as it is your birthday, I wouldn’t mind if you excused yourself from our activities, I’ll just pretend I did not notice”, Beckendorf said with the same scowl that he wore every day all day.

“No thank you, I want to train”, I told him, “I want to be a great hero one day, can’t go slacking off just because it is my birthday”

“You are a real workaholic aren’t ya”, he grunted, “what, you want to start working in the night too? Ha, anyways, it is your choice so whatever”

We went straight into the forges, where I was working on my project from the previous day, a celestial bronze breastplate, which I would later paint orange in honor of my father. It didn’t take long for me to sink into hyperfocus on my craft. I managed to finish my breastplate before lunch. So, after we ate, it was straight back into the forges, to enchant the breastplate, with camouflage, blunt damage resistance, mist cloaking(making it look like a leather jacket to mortals), heat and cold resistance, acid proofing and a few other miscellaneous enchantments. By the end, it was done and carved with a multitude of greek words, channeling magic through the whole piece. I burned through quite a lot of monster spoils of war in creating the enchantments, so I would have to hunt in the forest for more. And that was exactly what I did the next day. Our activities that day only started at 2pm, so I spent the morning hunting monsters with my bow and arrow in the forest. In there, my bowmanship leveled up thrice. By the end of that, I had five hellhound fangs, three harpy claws and a few scales from various monsters, enough to finally enchant my sword. I now was confident enough in my ability to try and add onto the enchantments on the sword, such as ever sharpness, enhanced durability and so on and so forth.

What I planned on adding to the sword was an lightning enchantment, much like clarisse’s spear and a fire enchantment, both of which I hoped to be able to turn on and off again. The enchantment process was pretty straight forward, just channeling magic and monster spoils of war onto the blade using inscriptions. The electricity enchantment went on there no problem but I noticed half way through the fire enchantment that there wasn’t enough place on the blade to enchant it with fire, so I turned the enchantment from fire, to the returning enchantment, much like riptide. That enchantment still fit onto the blade, so I was happy with that.

Sitting in the dining pavilion for dinner, I checked my stats.

Chapter 10: a quest to be

Chapter Text

The day after my birthday, I got the cards from my mom and my stepdad, congratulating me on turning 11. She sent a care package with the card and some spending money, 50 dollars. I was thankful for the gifts and send back a thank you card, telling her how much I miss her(which I actually didn’t but she didn’t need to know that) and other such formalities. I then spent the rest of the day in the forges, hammering away at a shield for myself.

The following day, I completed the shield and began enchanting it. A reinforcement enchantment and a few other miscellaneous enchantments, nothing too grand, just quality of life things like never getting dirty and always being polished.

After that, I played around with mist manipulation the whole night and it even leveled up five times that night. I was scared to go to sleep again, I didn’t want to be face to face with Kronos again, so I simply didn’t go to sleep and I wasn’t planning on doing so in the nearest future either. At least not till Percy arrives at camp, by then, his focus should be on the son of Poseidon, not on me.

For now it was grinding and grinding and more grinding. The next morning came before too late and that day was a special day, because our cabin wasn’t in the forges at all that day, instead, we rode canoes, the pegasi and did some sharp shooting.

We raced with our canoes against the canoes of ares’ cabin and won because of our little trap of greek fire, which forced the ares kids to jump in the water and swim the way back. I was getting better at riding Pegasi, though it would likely never be my favorite form of transportation, I preferred to be on the ground, not in the air.

At Sharpshooting, I managed to raise both my bowmanship and my dexterity by one.

After dinner I snuck out of our cabin and into the big house, where I brought Mr D the next shipment of good wine.

“Ah, you are here brat”, Mr D sighed in relief, “I almost thought you would stop bringing me wine after you haven’t delivered in so long”

“No, no, I plan to continue bringing you wine, it is just that it is hard to come by for a minor like myself”, I lied. It wasn’t hard at all, the shop was just one command word away but it was better to create a false scarcity, that way I won’t have to get him a bottle every day, once every few weeks should be enough now that I got him hooked. Without me, his whole supply of wine went away and therefore he treated me better than the others. Nothing too huge, just a bit more desert here, a more lax security there, small things like that.

“What have you got for me this time, Ors?”, Mr D looked at me with greed filled eyes, searching my body up and down for that sweet sweet wine.

“A Shiraz”, I told him, pulling the bottle from my inventory. The god was so transfixed on the wine that he didn’t even notice me pulling it from seemingly thin air, “should I pour you some right now, lord D?”

“Yes, yes”, he accepted, summoning an empty glass of wine. I poured in the wine slowly and thoughtfully. As soon as I stopped pouring, Dionysus grabbed the wine glass greedily and took a sip, “Ah, this is the good stuff. I like you kid, you know how to treat your betters. Hey, how about I get you a quest, for all this good work you’ve been doing?”

“That sounds fantastic”, I reply, grinning on the inside.

“Yes, nothing too dangerous, don’t want you to die out there but something with what you can prove yourself. Perhaps retrieving some artifact, I have a few in mind. For now though, you better get back to your cabin. By tomorrow I will have decided what quest to send you on, now shoo”

With a respectful nod, I left Dionysus to his wine and went back to my cabin, to keep reading until my eyes bleed, absorbing enough knowledge to get me through the troublesome times to come.
